Bridge Task Group Objectives

Objectives

This Task Group will support the transfer of Model Based Diagnosis (MBD) technology into industry related disciplines.

Through industrial participation, they will help identify (for participants from different backgrounds) the requirements of diagnostic processes in industry and to relate the existing theories, methods, techniques and systems to these requirements.

They will work to determine and define problems extracted from industrial challenges and to use these as tests for measuring and comparing the value and the results of applying various techniques or combinations thereof in the search for solutions.

This Task Group will compare and characterize the presumptions and scope of applicability of MBD technologies developed in control theory (FDI - Fault Detection & Identification - engineering, control theory) and AI (DX - Diagnosis - Computer Science / Artificial Intelligence). This will be done in order to identify competing and complementary methods and solutions using the DX MBD technology alongside the FDI MBD technology. BRIDGE will then identify and define useful interfaces and protocols for beneficial combinations of techniques.

Description of Work

In combination with relevant conferences and industrial participation, to further develop, relate, or converge various approaches of FDI (Fault Detection & Identification - engineering, control theory) and DX (Diagnosis - Computer Science/Artificial Intelligence) to the diagnosis of technical systems. The task group will define a set of problems extracted from industrial concerns/supplied by industrial participants, and work by analyzing the application of the respective technologies to the formation of solutions to industrial problems, therebyassessing their weaknesses, strengths and their complementarity.

Deliverables

MBD1 - session at DX2002 and associated report
MBD2 - Common Diagnostic Framework specification
MBD3 - report describing a collection of industrial reference problems
MBD4 - introductory articles and tutorials to cross-link methods and techniques to facilitate industrial Uptake of the technologies
MBD5 - report on evaluation of solutions to selected problems of industrial relevance
MBD6-7 - Technological Roadmap for DX/FDI integration.
